Bananas also contain water-soluble pectins that increase as bananas ripen. These pectins help normalise the rate of carbohydrate digestion and moderate the impact of fructose on blood sugar levels. In addition to this they contain fructooligosaccharides, a fructose containing carb that makes its way through to the lower intestine where it is metabolised by bacteria. Assisting in maintaining the balance of friendly bacteria in our gut; the centre of the bodies health.
Bananas also contain l-tryptophan which the body metabolises into 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) and is subsequently converted into serotonin; the happiness hormone.
