My girlfriend introduced me to Greek Mountain Tea (τσαϊ του βουνούwhen) when visiting her family in Samos.
As well as its gentle flavour making it a pleasure to drink, Greek Mountain Tea has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-oxidant properties.
It's antioxidants are courtesy of it's high phenol and bioflavonoid content; considerable levels of phyto-nutrients including apigenin, quercetin, kaempherol, and caffeic and chlorogenic acids. As a side note, if you're an allergy sufferer quercetin will be of great benefit! Isolated supplementation is worthwhile.
Due to its bioavailability Greek mountain tea is also as potent as green tea at inducing cellular antioxidant defenses and preventing oxidative stress. It is also effective against gastrointestinal disorders and due to zero caffeine content does not irritate the nervous system or cause insomnia. All in all a pretty awesome tea!
