I remember reading about hemp seeds and their benefits years ago but have only recently added them to my daily routine. I now have hemp seeds every morning and afternoon and hemp protein on training days; they are an incredible source of nutrients.
Hemp seeds contain all 20 amino acids including the 9 essential amino acids. A 3:1 balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids; the correct balance. They're high in Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 fatty acid which naturally balances hormones, and have 15 times the amount of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) as fish oil. In addition to this they are 33% 'complete' protein; the protein in hemp is in the form of Edestin protein. A globulin legumin protein that is highly bioavailable and digestible. If you get bloated from whey protein, hemp seeds and hemp protein will be for you. Definitely avoid soy protein as an alternative, among other reasons the unfermented soy bean contains phytic acid which is an anti-nutrient; blocks the uptake of nutrients.
Hemp seeds also contain magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc. Vitamin E, B Vitamins and Vitamin D3. And I could go on.. But we'll leave it there for now ✌ *Hemp food products are not approved for human consumption in Australia, they are everywhere else in the world just not here. Do some reading and use your own judgement.
