Discipline is perhaps one of the greatest attributes that also gets one the worst raps. It often conjures up images of authority, pain; sometimes aggression, or just plain negativity. Yet discipline is incredible and has nothing to do with authority or having to suffer.
Discipline can be gentle and it can be a damn good time. It does mean commitment, but that commitment can be to joy. There are few things in this world that come about of our own volition and provide true joy, that do not require discipline. Think of making a work of art, sailing a yacht, executing a complex dance piece or writing a novel. All of these things when executed with mastery can be the vessel to losing the self; melting into the connectedness of all things, while working in the flow of your craft. What could be better? There is such beauty in discipline, through its practice we are brought to the essence of existence. What an awesome opportunity that is.
